How to Use SureMembers with SureDash

SureMembers works with SureDash so you can control who can see different parts of your portal. You decide what members see, either entire sections, posts, lessons, or even just a single block on a page.

This is useful if you want to:

  • Create member-only portals
  • Lock lessons, discussions, or files for certain users
  • Show different content to different membership levels

What is SureDash?

SureDash is a WordPress plugin that lets you build custom user portals. A portal is like a central dashboard where your members can find courses, files, discussions, downloads, or other resources.

In SureDash, each section inside the portal is called a space. Spaces can be courses, posts, downloads, or resource pages.

Create an Access Group First

To use SureMembers with SureDash, you’ll need at least one Access Group. Follow this guide to set one up: How to Create Access Groups

Once your group is ready, you can connect it to SureDash content.

Option 1: Restrict Entire Sections of the Portal

Inside each Access Group, go to Protected Content. Here you can choose which parts of SureDash to lock.

Available SureDash Restrictions

  • Portal: restricts the entire portal
  • All Portal Spaces: restricts every space (courses, resources, downloads, etc.)
  • All Portal Space Group Archives: restricts space groups
  • All Community Posts: restricts all posts inside spaces
  • All Forums Archive: restricts forums and comments
  • All Community Content: restricts content inside spaces, such as lessons or resources
  • Specific URLs: restricts by exact page link
  • Specific Taxonomies: restricts by categories, tags, or custom taxonomy

Note: Spaces are content containers. They could be courses, posts, downloads, or resources. Lessons inside a course space are treated as Community Content when setting restrictions.

Option 2: Restrict Individual Blocks

If you don’t want to restrict a whole area, you can use the Restrict This Block setting. This hides or shows individual blocks depending on a user’s access group.

In the Customize Portal Editor

  • Open Customize Portal
  • Select the block or section you want to control
  • In the right-hand sidebar, turn on Restrict This Block
  • Choose whether to show or hide it based on the user’s access group

In Lessons, Posts, or Community Content

  • Open the post, lesson, or resource inside a space
  • Select the block you want to control
  • In the right-hand sidebar, turn on Restrict This Block
  • Choose the access group condition (is in / is not in group)

This gives you more detailed control, letting you customize what different users see inside the same page.
